100 m³ gear oil storage tank – project delivered for a client in germany

This project is another example of an industrial steel storage tank delivered by our company to the German market. From the very beginning, the scale of this installation set it apart. The client required a large storage tank for gear oils, suitable for outdoor operation and capable of holding as much as 100 m³ of medium. The tank had to be not only capacious, but also stable and durable – ready for continuous, long-term use. It was clear from the planning stage that this would be a structure that truly stands out.

What are gear oils and why is proper storage so important?

Gear oils are an essential component of almost every mechanical vehicle – from passenger cars and trucks to industrial and agricultural machinery. Their primary function is to protect gear systems from wear, scuffing and overheating caused by heavy-duty operation.
They ensure smooth, quiet and efficient performance of gear transmissions. To maintain these properties, gear oils must be stored in tanks that provide stable temperature, tightness and protection against environmental conditions. This was exactly the purpose of this project.

Impressive dimensions – a steel tower nearly 17 meters high

The steel tank we delivered measures 2.9 m in diameter and approximately 17 m in height. In practice, it resembles a tall, slender steel tower dominating its surroundings. Despite its height, the structure remains exceptionally stable thanks to four robust steel support legs.
The tank was built as a single-wall, atmospheric steel tank. The shell and upper head are made of S235JR steel, while the bottom head was manufactured from P265GH steel – ensuring enhanced durability and resistance to load conditions. The entire structure was designed to meet the required static and mechanical load parameters.

Complete equipment – connections, platform and full heating system

The tank was delivered with a complete set of process connections and technological equipment. A key element is the integrated heating coil system, which ensures that the stored medium can be efficiently warmed during colder periods.
In addition to the heating coil, the tank is equipped with a DN 600 manhole, as well as all necessary pipes and flanged connections as requested by the client.
The scope of delivery also included a galvanized service platform, which was installed on top of the tank once it arrived on site.

Insulation – efficiency and aesthetic finish

To ensure proper thermal conditions for the stored medium, the entire tank was insulated with 100 mm mineral wool, providing stable temperature retention and reducing heat loss. The insulation layer was covered with a durable aluzinc cladding, giving the tank both protection and a clean, industrial appearance.
