AdBlue tanks - for whom?

AdBlue – a water solution of urea – is commonly used by manufacturers of vehicles with diesel engines in exhaust gas cleaning systems. The aim is to reduce the emission of harmful compounds and meet the exhaust emission standards, ie Euro 6. A large number of trucks and passenger cars with a diesel engine, equipped with the technology of reducing nitrogen oxide using AdBlue, forces the market to ensure easy availability of this substance.

The simplest and safest form of refilling the liquid from the environmental point of view is refueling at fuel distribution stations. For this reason, steel tanks for AdBlue (both underground and above-ground) are primarily dedicated to commercial fuel outlets, which allow you to refuel diesel and AdBlue during one stop. They can also be used, for example, to supply one’s own extensive fleet of vehicles at company petrol stations.

Influence of AdBlue’s physicochemical properties on its storage

AdBlue has specific physicochemical properties. They have a significant impact on its stored. It is critical to understand those properties to ensure safe and effective storage of AdBlue.

Chemical stability

AdBlue is an aqueous solution of urea. To maintain the effectiveness and high quality of this liquid, it is necessary to maintain its chemical stability. One of the factors of urea decompensation in AdBlue are high temperatures. Thus it is necessary to store AdBlue in a place where the temperature does not exceed certain standards, which are usually between -5°C and 30°C. Maintaining the temperature within a certain range reduces the risk of chemical decomposition of the liquid.

Steel tanks for AdBlue by Ekonstal are properly insulated and equipped with a heating coil. For tanks dedicated only for AdBlue, thermal insulation is applied on their entire surface. If AdBlue is stored in only one of the chambers in a multi-chamber tank, the dedicated chamber is insulated. In aboveground tanks, the connections are also insulated and heated. Thermal insulation may also be applied to the pipeline supplying AdBlue to the dispensers. Regardless of extreme weather conditions, steel tanks will protect AdBlue against negative effects, such as decomposition or loss of physical and chemical properties.

Sensitivity to contamination

AdBlue is very sensitive to contamination. This it should be stored in sealed containers, ensuring sterility and full protection against contamination. The AdBlue storage tanks offered by Ekonstal are designed in such a way as to guarantee protection of AdBlue against dirt and any substances whose presence in the liquid could damage the vehicle’s catalyst.
